The End / by Vittoria Di Stefano

After a five week period, the show is now over. A few discoveries were made. I didn't visit as often as I had intended, making only one major change to the show during the entire time period. Initially I felt this was a failure on my part. But as time went on and I observed the objects and materials changing organically, I was glad I hadn't messed with them so much...an inherent and subtle temporality was able to be observed in the work without the interference. As the weeks went on they began to bleach out; it was like they were disappearing, which I enjoyed. Eventually the show began to look to my eyes like a pencil outline of the original.

Exploring sound was new to me and I'm still unsure as to whether I will pursue this in other work...in some ways it was like playing with a new material and although the final effect seemed a little disjointed in the gallery space, I did enjoy the experience. Maybe with a little more experience and experimentation this could develop. Or maybe not.

Having the luxury of five weeks meant that I could disconnect myself from the show and then revisit with relatively fresh eyes. After one absence of almost two weeks, I was almost shocked to see the work again. The familiarity and the difference in the work collapsed together to create a jarring effect, which I was surprised and amused by. The effect was very intimate and very personal. For me anyway.

Obviously this isn't really the end. I'm curious to see how this will fold into the next line of inquiry...which is starting off with some time away in the country. Thanks to all involved with the show, until next time!
